New Online Window to Abu Dhabi’s 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race Campaign Launched

Abu Dhabi, 20 July 2014: A revamped and improved bilingual website dedicated to Abu Dhabi’s 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race campaign has been launched.

Via www.volvooceanraceabudhabi.com sailing fans all over the world can follow both Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR) – the emirate’s Volvo Ocean Race contesting outfit – and the build-up to the UAE capital’s December/January hosting of the race fleet in a three-week stopover.

“This is a one-hit information outlet for all who want to follow the fortunes of ADOR, our sleek Azzam Volvo Ocean 65 yacht, and is ideal for those planning to visit during our stopover when Abu Dhabi city will be alive with numerous maritime celebrations,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Director of Events Bureau, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which is behind the campaign.

The new site’s design reflects the look of Azzam - one of the world’s most technologically advanced offshore racing yachts – and is filled with clever functionalities that allow visitors to navigate through a sea of information about ADOR’s sailing and shore teams, the ongoing stopover preparations and Abu Dhabi’s growing watersports offering.

“We carefully thought through every aspect of the site to deliver the ultimate user-friendly visitor experience,” added Al Sheikh. “Visitors can also use it to book tailored stopover holiday and hospitality packages, check-out volunteer, sponsorship and exhibition opportunities and explore the many ways they can get on the water and enjoy Abu Dhabi’s warm sunshine and expansive coastline.”

ADOR, currently on its second transatlantic crossing, is expected to reach Gosport on England’s south coast on 20 July. The team, Azzam and Abu Dhabi will be spotlighted during next month’s Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week –the world’s biggest sailing regatta, which runs on the Isle of Wight from 2-9 August.

“This year’s Cowes Week is extra special for us as Abu Dhabi is the event’s ‘Official Destination Partner,’” added Al Sheikh. “While ADOR fights to win honours in the round-island Artemis Challenge on August 8, we will be promoting Abu Dhabi’s watersports destination credentials onshore. There’s a lot of excitement ahead and everyone can follow it via our new website,” added Al Sheikh.

Site visitors can also enter a homepage competition for their chance to win a very special shirt – the first piece of merchandise signed by the entire 2014/2015 ADOR team – as well as a kit bag from MUSTO, the market-leading sailing clothing brand.
